Wineries on the Grand Strand? Yes, there are!

The Grand Strand is a wonderful place to vacation–relax, play in the surf, lay on the warm beaches, shop till you drop, enjoy family-oriented attractions, and visit our wineries.  Yes, we do have four wineries on the Grand Strand.

Although wine connoisseur’s do not usually consider Myrtle Beach to be a great place to grow wine-producing grapes in the Coastal climate and sandy soil, Muscadines do thrive in our coastal terrain.   Muscadines are a type of grape that is naturally sweet and native to the Southeastern United States.

Duplin Winery:

Duplin Winery, located at 4650 Highway 17, South, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina adjacent to Barefoot Landing is a great place to relax with a glass of sweet Muscadine wine.  According to their website, “At our Duplin Winery North Myrtle Beach South Carolina location, our staff is ready to educate and entertain you on the winemaking method while you enjoy a delicious tasting. Plus, guests can watch the bottling process, relax in the courtyard and shop in our retail store that offers Duplin Gourmet, wine accessories and something fun for everyone.

Duplin Winery is open from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday and is a fun place to sample some of its 43 different wines from the largest and oldest winery in the South.  The award-winning winery is owned by the Fussell family and was started in the 1970’s.  David and Jonathan, brothers, work together as they grow their business to ensure quality.

Duplin Winery also has Sweetzers, which is a frozen wine creation with a slushy consistency made by mixing a bag of Sweetzer mix with a bottle of recommended Duplin wine that comes in various blends.  It is the best frozen wine according to vhash77 below:

Best Frozen Wine!  I’ve had frozen wine at several locations, but I must say the frozen wine at Duplin’s Winery is very good. We’ve visited several times. Typically, I enjoy a drink while sitting on the outdoor patio listening to the musicians. It’s a great atmosphere, friendly staff and very good wine! Worth a stop.”

There are four wine-tasting rooms that accommodate around 25 guests.  You can sample 10 wines for $5 at the Basic wine tasting.  For $10, the Deluxe tasting includes crackers and dip, a glass of wine afterwards, and a souvenir glass. Tastings take place Monday-Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

La Belle Amie Vineyards (Home of Twisted Sisters Wines):

La Belle Amie Vineyard is an operating vineyard located at 1120 Saint Joseph Road, Little River, South Carolina and open to the public, and is known by some as the Twisted Sister Winery Myrtle Beach South Carolina.  It is a popular tourist attraction for the people that visit the Grand Strand (Pawley’s Island, Litchfield, Murrell’s Inlet, Garden City, Surfside, Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach).

La Belle Amie Vineyard’s home has been in the Bellamy family since the 1800’s.  La Belle Amie, which means “the beautiful friend” is the European origin name of the Bellamy family.

The vineyard is a former tobacco plantation; therefore, it is no surprise that you will travel past an old tobacco barn, a duck pond, and Vineyard #1 leading up to the wine and gift shop which was opened in early 2000.  Vineyard guests can buy unique gifts and wine accessories, as well as sample La Belle Amie’s private labels, specialty dips and sauces.  Wine tastings are available from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. every Tuesday through Friday unless it is a festival day.

If you bring 2 canned/dry good food items for the area food bank, admission is reduced by $3. All events are from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Always check the website as events are subject to change or postponement in the case of inclement weather.

Coastal Carolina Winery:

Located at 1118 Celebrity Circle, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at Broadway at the Beach, is a great place to have some fun sampling their awards winning wines or relaxing in their winery while seeing the local Carolina hand-made pottery, clothing, wine accessories, etc.  Their website states, “Whether you’re a wine enthusiast, friendly lover of wine, or getting to know the art of tasting wines for the first time, Coastal Carolina Winery is the perfect place for an enjoyable day with friends and family.”

When you arrive at Coastal Carolina Winery Myrtle Beach South Carolina, you will be given a full list of their wines, giving you the opportunity to check off the ones you would like to taste while asking questions about them.  For $5, you can sample seven wines and if you choose to keep the large souvenir wine glass after the tasting, it is an additional $3.  During the wine tasting, you can also sample three different styles of fresh frozen wine slushies.

According to MatthewB:  “So there are two wineries at Broadway. This is by far the better one. The associate working there was super friendly and extremely knowledgeable about all of the wines. We did the wine tasting which included 7 samples for $5.  Every question we had was answered and every wine was delicious. It was an amazing experience and would definitely be back when at Broadway. I recommend anyone that has a half hour to spare give it a try.”

EricaT wrote:  “Amazing wine! Absolutely love the Cabernet Sauvignon! Blackberry wine was delicious too. Buy 3 get one free. So I totally did that. The service was fantastic. Some of the wines are buy one get one. You also MUST try the Ports, they’re 15% alcohol but they taste light and a bit sweet.”

Planning of small social gathering of 15 people or more?  Just call ahead and schedule your private wine tasting.  Coastal Carolina Winery will help you facilitate this event in any way they can which includes catering cheese, chocolate or fruit. If you really enjoy the wine at Coastal Carolina Winery, there is an option to join their Wine Club and relax in the evenings in “The Wine Hut” while finding out about the special events at the winery, special limited releases of their wines, and special savings and discounts to the Wine Hut members all throughout the year.

Carolina Vineyards Winery:

Began as a winemaking hobby in 1985, Tim and Carrie Walker soon turned their hobby into one of South Carolina’s biggest and best wineries in 1999 with five acres of vineyards in Chester, South Carolina.  First wholesaling wine throughout South Carolina for a few years, then making the decision to go bigger, relocating their operating winery to 4922 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in Barefoot Landing in 2005.

Continuing their 23 plus year winemaking tradition using a varietal grape and producing dry, semi-dry, medium and sweet wines from South Carolina grown fruits.  Varietal grapes are used to produce most of their dry wines, while the sweet wines are produced from fruit.  All of their wines are available for tasting, so go try the “Taste of the South”.

Their tasting room is open seven days a week, almost every day of the year except Christmas and Thanksgiving Days.  They always open at 10:00 a.m., but based on the season, their closing hours could vary.  Taste seven of their wines for $3 and add their winery logo glass as a souvenir for a $1 more.  Their wine smoothies are available from April through October.  According to the reviews below, Cindy and Wanda at Carolina Vineyards make you feel right at home while sampling “A Taste of the South”:

CourneyS:  “I went to Myrtle for my bachelorette party and we stumbled upon this place. It was amazing!! Cindy was so good to us and my our experience great! The wine is amazing too! I was skeptical about the chocolate wines but tried them and they are now my absolute favorite. We will be vivsiting this place every time we vacation in Myrtle!”

SuznneM:  “My husband and I come to North Myrtle twice a year, and visiting here is one of our favorite things to do!! Wanda and Cindy are two of the sweetest ladies I have ever met (even sweeter than their delicious wines!! They always go out of their way to treat their customers like family and always take the best care of us!! Just wonderful people – and delicious wines (strong too….don’t let the sweet fruity flavor fool you).”

So, there you have it!!  Four great wineries to visit on your next trip to the Grand Strand.  Take some time to relax and enjoy a glass with your friends and local winemakers while enjoying Myrtle Beach Wine Tasting Events!
