Tom Kandris came to the United States from Greece when he was 17. He started working odd jobs in restaurants to support himself and eventually went out to California where he owned a carpet business. He sold that business, returned to New York and bought a diner that he named The Country Club Family Restaurant, and that is where he and his wife, Barbara, met and fell in love.
Barbara and Tom Kandris came to North Myrtle Beach to vacation in the oceanfront condos in Myrtle Beach and met a friend who owned two Plantation Pancake Houses. He offered to sell them one in North Myrtle Beach. Barbara and Tom liked the climate and ambience of Myrtle Beach so much that they sold their restaurant in New York and bought into the Plantation Pancake House. They also bought Myrtle Beach real estate.
After six years, they bought their partner out, and the restaurant is now family-owned and operated by Tom and Barbie and four of their children, who also live in beautiful Myrtle Beach real estate. Their children have bought homes for sale in Myrtle Beach in Carolina Forest; North Myrtle Beach real estate in Belle Park, which is an old, established neighborhood; and in Myrtle Beach real estate close to all the action.
Barbie says that working in the restaurant does not feel like work, it feels like home. The waitresses are friendly and the service is good. Tom says that the number one thing is quality. He also said that when he was young, friends of his taught him how to make good, quality food and his cuisine reflects that. Barbie’s parting words are, “Come give us a try. We will make you feel welcome and happy.”
