NORTH MYRTLE BEACH’S ANNUAL MAYFEST ON MAIN
Featuring national entertainment; arts and crafts; upscale vendors; a children’s area, shagging in the streets and lots of fun with friends, Mayfest on Main is one of North Myrtle Beach’s most famous festivals, and it is free. The hours of the festival are from 10:00 until 6:00 and takes place in the heart of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Main Street, which is shut down for the event.
If you are a visitor, staying in one of our beautiful oceanfront condos or beach houses or a local living in your own North Myrtle Beach Real Estate, be sure to come out and enjoy the fun. Where else will you be treated to some of the best live musical acts in the nation at no charge and be able to sample some of our local cuisine from food vendors while lounging in your own beach chair (make sure you bring one)? It will be a fun day for the entire family as you make beach memories to last a life time.
The featured entertainment will take place on at the horseshoe on Main Street, a popular hot spot for tourists and locals in North Myrtle Beach. The opening ceremonies will begin at 12:00 noon, and Russell Thompkins & The New Stylistics will perform at 12:30 on the permanent entertainment stage that was recently built to accommodate summer concerts, festivals, and other performances. There are also permanent restroom facilities for our visitors. Blue Monday will perform on the Main stage at 2:00 p.m. and Great White will go on stage at 4:00 for a fabulous conclusion to the performances on the Main Stage at the horseshoe. Based on the review below by Terri F, it is a performance that you don’t want to miss.

The Mayfest on Main Festival is a great way to kick off your summer with a celebration in North Myrtle Beach. The Mayfest was the brainchild of Everette Wayne “Skipper” Hough also known as “Water Dog”. He was given this moniker, because he was a Grand Strand lifeguard from 1963 – 1967 and is credited for 34 saves, which earned him the nickname, “Water Dog”. He also ran the infamous “Pad”, which was an early SOS hangout, and worked at the Beach Club and Beach Club Bookings. He and his wife, owners of Water Dog Promotions, have produced festivals around the world.
“Water Dog” managed such huge names as the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Rod Steward, and the Doobie Brothers. Although “Water Dog” had all of these fabulous experiences, his heart was in North Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand where he was the founder of Mayfest on Main. “Water Dog” succumbed to liver cancer on April 21, 2011. He was known as everybody’s best friend, and now his legacy lives on as the festival carries on his idea of shopping, eating and enjoying music while making friends at this fabulous party on Main Street.
Sounds like North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is the place to be on Saturday, May 13, 2017, along with other locals living in Myrtle Beach Real Estate and tourists renting oceanfront condos and beach houses along the Grand Strand. Bring your beach chair and sunscreen and enjoy the entertainment, shop and dine along the Main Street in North Myrtle Beach, and wander among the crafts while still listening to the live music. It is a great way to celebrate Mothers’ Day with your family, since the Mayfest on Main is always the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Per Marilyn K. of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina: “We never miss it!!” Why should you?
