Hello, we are back again to tell you about Troi Kaz, one of our Better Homes and Gardens Elliott Coastal Living Real Estate Agents who works in our new Pawleys Island Real Estate Office! Troi has a very engaging personality and is one of those people who never meets a stranger!
Born in California, Troi moved across the country with her family as the daughter of a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force. With two sisters and a brother, the family eventually landed in South Carolina—her mother’s home state—when her father retired. They lived in Summerville, South Carolina, right outside of Charleston, South Carolina.
Troi earned a degree in Journalism with emphasis in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. After selling media, which is what originally brought her to the Myrtle Beach area, Troi directed marketing efforts for real estate and resort developers in Charleston at Wild Dunes, at Pirates Cove in The Outer Banks, and at DeBordieu Colony, about 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach. Troi also served as the first VP of Marketing at the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce.
While serving as the Marketing Manager at DeBordieu, Troi also sold DeBordieu Club Memberships, met the man who would become her husband, General Manager Jeff Kaz, and began her real estate career selling luxury real estate at this prestigious, gated community just south of Pawleys Island.
Troi and Jeff have two children: a son and a daughter. Joseph, a music composer and opera singer, just received his Masters Degree from The Catholic University of America. Their daughter, Kelly, is an avid golfer and sophomore at Clemson University. As you can imagine, this creates a very lively rivalry when the Gamecocks play the Tigers since both Troi and her husband went to the University of South Carolina, Home of the Gamecocks.
Troi does have one more member of the family, a chocolate Lab, named Scout: The Wonder Dog. Troi did not realize that she was a “dog person” until Scout wagged his way into her heart. Now, she is totally committed to being a “Doggie Parent,” too.
In her spare time, Troi enjoys painting! You know those places where you bring $35, a bottle of wine, an appetizer… and leave with a masterpiece? Troi went to one in Pawleys Island a few years ago and was hooked! She now loves painting views of the gorgeous settings in Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet, Georgetown and DeBordieu: Marshes, creeks, rivers, and the ocean. She has even painted a few golf course holes. Troi gives most of her paintings as gifts, but if someone wants to buy one, she gives it to them and simply asks them to donate what they think it’s worth to their favorite charity or church.
After 25 years of selling real estate in the Pawleys Island area, and onsite at DeBordieu, Troi decided to join the Pawleys Island Office of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Elliott Coastal Living last Summer. Let’s check with Troi and see how she feels her business is going…
Q: There are many real estate agencies located in North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Pawleys Island and along the Grand Strand, but you chose BHGRE. Why?
A: The combination of the well-respected local brand of Elliott Coastal Living, and the well-known national brand of Better Homes and Gardens made it a slam dunk for me. We sell a lifestyle here on the coast. Of all the real estate brands out there, who better to sell the All-American Lifestyle than Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate!
Q: How do you market yourself to a potential client that causes them to choose you as their agent?
A: I’m just honest with them, try to be myself, in my marketing, and in personal meetings. I know a lot about the DeBordieu and Pawleys Island real estate market, but have also done real estate marketing for developers in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Charleston, South Carolina. So, you might say I know this coastal real estate market inside and out!
Q: To what do you attribute your success as a beach real estate agent?
A: Trust and customer service. For most folks, buying real estate is the biggest transaction they will ever make. They have to know that they can trust their agent, before, during, and after the transaction.
Q: Do you prefer to sell Pawleys Island beach homes for sale, oceanfront lots for sale in Myrtle Beach or condos for sale in Murrells Inlet?
A: While I specialize in selling luxury real estate, particularly in DeBordieu Colony, I also enjoy selling property in just about any price range in Pawleys Island, Georgetown, and Murrells Inlet. I even have a killer ocean-front lot currently listed right down the street from the Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach.
Q: As a Pawleys Island real estate agent, what do you like best about the job?
A: There is nothing I like better than meeting with a client in their home, hearing about their experiences there, and strategizing about the best way to sell it—so they can move on to their next chapter. I also love taking buyers to some of the most beautiful spots on the South Carolina coast and helping them achieve their goals to start living the dream!
Q: Being a beach real estate agent is very competitive, what do you do that has earned you the description as “one of the best” Myrtle Beach real estate agents?
A: I have been blessed with a few good talents, and the opportunity to use them. People who work with me find that my communication skills are spot on, that I am trustworthy, and have a pretty good sense of humor. Buying and selling a house can actually be a lot of fun!
Q: As a real estate agent at Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Elliott Coastal Living in the Pawleys Island area, you do not have set office hours, so you have to be self-motivated. What motivates you?
A: College tuition for two kids! Ha! My background is in marketing, advertising, and public relations, but my real strengths are in the sales process: “icebergs to Eskimos.” While it’s challenging, helping people buy or sell real estate is actually fun. It’s a great job. The introduction of blogging and social media a few years ago really gave me an opportunity to use my marketing skills on a daily basis.
Q: When you list a house for a client in the Pawleys Island area, what means of marketing do you find most valuable in reaching other realtors and potential clients?
A: Email and text messages.
Q: You seem to have a very good client base in the Pawleys Island real estate area. How did you create it?
A: Years of networking in local groups in the Pawleys Island area from PTAs to a variety of Charity Fund Raisers. Honey, I have done it all. Currently, I’ve accepted a position on the board of the new Pawleys Island Litchfield Business Association, where I will have the opportunity to chair the Arts and Philanthropy committee. But, I also have many contacts in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, mostly from my days in television. But I’ve lived in Pawleys Island for over 30 years now. It’s God’s country.
Q: Everyone who is searching for a home wants their dream home for a dream price. What is the most challenging aspect of finding your clients their dream home for sale in Pawleys Island?
A: The biggest challenge right now is finding sellers who are willing to sell their home for what it is worth TODAY. Many times, that is not possible. We’ve not recovered completely from the most recent unpleasantness in the real estate market, particularly with second homes. It’s challenging, but not impossible.
Q: What do you find most rewarding about your job as a real estate agent for Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Elliott Coastal Living in Pawleys Island?
A: I love telling people I work for Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate. Of course, some think I’ve gone to work for the magazine, lol! Better Homes and Gardens is such a great, trusted lifestyle brand. And I love talking about the Elliott family and the legendary customer service on which they have built their business in the Myrtle Beach Area.
