Spreading a lot good old-fashioned Southern hospitality and “Gumbo Love”, Lulu’s, located at 954 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, opened in Barefoot Landing on June 9, 2018. It is the first restaurant to open in the new Barefoot Landing expansion of a walkable restaurant district—Dockside Village. Dockside Village Barefoot Landing will feature a collection of outstanding culinary offerings, inviting common areas, waterfront dining, and attractive architecture along the Intracoastal Waterway.
According to Lulu, “Lucy Buffett’s LuLu’s in North Myrtle Beach is all about celebrating, food, family, and FUN! We are now open in Barefoot Landing and could not be happier to share our little LuLu’s world with South Carolina. Take a break from life for a little while and soak up all the good vibes of our delicious food, live music, and stunning Intracoastal waterfront view. Everything is better with sand between your toes and a cold drink in your hand while the kids play in the sun. Eat, play, shop—we’ve got something for everyone.”
Lulu’s Barefoot Landing is an open-air restaurant with seating inside and outside, situated along the Intracoastal Waterway near Greg Norman’s Australian Grille and TBonz. The 17,000-square foot attraction is not only a restaurant, but it also has an outdoor seating area with a sandy beach with buckets and shovels and a “Fountain for Youth” which is a fun water feature for the kids to splash in as they play on the beach.
LuLu’s future plans include the addition of a three-story ropes course, an arcade, and “LuLu’s Shag Beach Bar” By combining a great dining experience and a fun, family-friendly atmosphere, and spoiling their customers with their full-service, 450-seat restaurant featuring live music and outdoor dining area, LuLu’s hopes to become one of the most appealing entertainment destinations in the entire Myrtle Beach area.
According to Lucy Buffett, LuLu’s owner, “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be bringing some Gumbo Love and LuLu’s lifestyle to Myrtle Beach! In keeping with LuLu’s coastal atmosphere, our new home along the Intracoastal Waterway offers the perfect backdrop for the fun, food and music that is so classically LuLu’s. We offer our guests the ideal place for relaxation, laughter, memory-making and, of course, delicious Coastal Southern cuisine.”
Some of the items on Lulu’s menu are shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, fried okra, Lower Alabama Caviar, LuLu’s Famous Seafood Gumbo, a crab melt, and fresh Gulf seafood brought up from the Gulf of Mexico. Everything is made fresh, from scratch, and if you aren’t in the mood for seafood, the menu also features a selection of fresh salads, tacos, sandwiches, and a unique creation called the “Pa-menna” Cheeseburger with pimento cheese, bacon and a fried green tomato.
Lulu’s also offers a special service, the allergy program, which is extensive and allows just about anyone to eat there without the fear of allergies. They have special menus for people with allergies from shellfish, to soy, to gluten. According to George Martin, Chief Operating Officer for Lulu’s, “The care that we take in our allergy program allows parents and children to have complete confidence, so those with extreme allergy can come and enjoy a meal just like anyone else.”
The restaurant also has a locals’ program that has a been a huge success called “LuLu’s Loves Locals” where locals can sign up for the restaurant’s free loyalty program, earning 10 percent cash back on all food and beverage purchases. Ask your server for more information. Martin said, “I like to think that we bring a little bit of extra care and love to what we do. We spend a lot of time hyper-focusing on the little things, you know, the smile, the warm welcome, the level of service at the table, the quality of food, the enthusiasm in each department, the cleanliness, and the feel of the property when you walk up it just is an inviting feeling that once you’re here you just wanna stay here, and then you wanna come back, and then you wanna bring your friends, and then you wanna talk about it.”
Lucy Buffett is the sister of singer Jimmy Buffett as well as a creative chef, business woman, author and story teller. Lucy has two other successful restaurants, LuLu’s in Gulf Shores, Alabama and LuLu’s in Destin, Florida. Now Lucy has opened LuLu’s in Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. According to Lucy, “I’m terribly excited because in the first two locations, we always correct what didn’t work and here we have been able to build like the ultimate LuLu’s that will accommodate the growth that North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach area has.”
According to Martin, “LuLu’s is all about creating memories with your family and relaxing. The restaurant’s menus feature the slogan “Our job is to make you forget about your job for a while.” It certainly sounds like LuLu’s Restaurant Barefoot Landing is a fun, entertaining place to eat with good Coastal Southern cuisine filled with “Gumbo Love”. Jesserlaw13—”Excellent atmosphere and good food! The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere! There are several spots to sit or play cornhole while waiting. The restaurant is open air and right on the water so it’s a beautiful view. When we were there, there was a live musician who was very good. Everyone liked their food especially the crab melt and super fresh guacamole.”
SusanA—”Fun place and good food! We had fried oysters and shrimp, burgers and fried craw claws. Everything was very good, including the crispy fries. Enjoyed the atmosphere and the kids loved playing in the sand. Would recommend to friends”
RVarley708—”Great experience, great food, good prices! This is such a fun place to eat! The atmosphere is perfect – looks over the inter coastal waterway, open air facility with outdoor seating and indoor seating that is open air with garage doors that can be closed depending on the weather. Great selection menu, offerings well prepared, plenty on your plate! Try the fried green tomatoes- you won’t be sorry. This is a must do spot when in / around the North Myrtle Beach area. When your done here there’s plenty to see and do as it is set in the Board Walk attraction – tons of shops etc.!”
