Grand Strand Holiday Shows 2017:

“Christmas Show of the South” is celebrating its 32nd season at the Carolina Opry.  It was the first nightly Christmas Special on the Grand Strand and debuted in 1985.  Per Myrtle Beach Life, “This beloved Myrtle Beach holiday tradition is the only show that has won every major South Carolina Tourism Award including the Governor’s Cup and Most Outstanding Attraction.” The Carolina Opry Christmas Show runs from November 1 – December 31, 2017.  The decorations at the Carolina Opry include 35 Christmas trees with a 30-foot lobby tree lit with 25,000 lights.  There are also 75 wreaths and over 5 miles of tree lighting wire creating a dazzling display of lights and decorations.

Calvin Gilmore, owner, producer and entertainer has created an unforgettable holiday experience with a special reunion season unlike any other.  The beloved Kym “Bogie” Shurbutt, who is recovering from bone cancer, will return for the Christmas show along with Steve Sifford, who retired a few years ago after emceeing at The Carolina Opry for 19 years.  Also returning for the Christmas show reunion is Rocky Fretz, international pianist and part of the original Carolina Opry cast over 32 years ago.

The returning special guests will be joined by newcomer, Rory John Zak, America’s Got Talent stars, “All That!”, clogging group, and an award-winning cast of over 35 talented performers including Calvin Gilmore, Tangena Church, Rita Gumm, Christie Templeton and Brad Long.  Rumor is that you might even see a horse-drawn sleigh.

“The South’s Grandest Christmas Show” will run from November 1 – December 31, 2017 as the Alabama Theater Christmas Show in Barefoot Landing.  This award-winning production will instill the true meaning of Christmas in your family featuring both traditional and contemporary holiday music.  The show is a Christmas extravaganza bringing you an incredible combination of talent, scenery and special effects to produce a spectacular new holiday musical experience with dancing gingerbread characters, toy soldiers, reindeer and phenomenal sounds creating a dazzling production.

The South’s Grandest Christmas Show has become a southern family tradition for both visitors and residents that return year after year to celebrate the Christmas season.  The show will also feature comedian Rick Mokel, who adds another level of fun to keep your spirits high.  What a great way to culminate the Alabama Theater Myrtle Beach Schedule 2017!

“Legends in Concert’s Holiday Show” is playing from November 2 – December 31, 2017 at Broadway at the Beach.  This incredible production is an internationally acclaimed celebrity tribute show, featuring live artists portraying such music legends as Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Rod Stewart, the Blues Brothers and Nat King Cole—five acts in one fantastic show.  The tribute artists not only look like the legends; they also sound and move like them.  They will be singing their greatest hits as well as favorite Christmas classics.

Pirate’s Voyage Christmas Show” is presented from November 9 – December 31, 2017 with Captain Scrooge and the mystical Spirit of Christmas as they travel to the past, present and future of Buccaneer Bay while the Crimson and Emerald pirates try to get the Christmas treasure that Captain Scrooge has already commandeered. You will see giant Christmas toys come to life and perform amazing acrobatics overhead and watch the antics of a comical castaway and her sea lion companion.  A live Nativity complete with wise men, camels and an angel with a special Christmas message will entrance you as you are treated to a four-course holiday feast while watching the show.

The Grand Strand is ready to amaze and entertain both the residents and visitors along the coast with all of our Christmas traditions, holiday shows, Christmas Tree Lightings, mesmerizing Christmas lights and beautiful decorations.  Of course, Santa will be here as well to hear the children’s Christmas lists.

If you are wondering how Santa comes to the Grand Strand when there is no snow.  Well, Santa really does come by boat to the beach via the 33rd Annual Intracoastal Christmas Regatta on November 25, 2017 which starts at 5:00 p.m. at the Little River Inlet and travels to the Dock Holiday Marina in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  So, hurry to the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina as quickly as possible for the holidays, and share our Christmas Spirit!
