Get to Know the Grand Strand: Cherry Grove

Get to know the Cherry Grove section of North Myrtle Beach

The Grand Strand is an amazing place to call home! The people are warm and inviting, the cost of living is reasonable, the weather is mild and natural beauty is abundant. According to the US Census Bureau, over 104,000 people have relocated to the Myrtle Beach/Conway/North Myrtle Beach metropolitan area in the last eight years. With so many people relocating to the area, there are probably a lot of you out there who are still learning the lay of the land. At Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Elliott Coastal Living we want to help everyone feel at home in the Grand Strand. That’s why BHGRE Elliott Coastal Living is here to offer a closer look at some of the different sections of Myrtle Beach, to help you better find your way around our community.

This week we will be looking at Cherry Grove.

History

The Cherry Grove section of North Myrtle Beach was first developed during the 1950s. When it was first developed, Cherry Grove was a small suburb of the Myrtle Beach Metropolitan Area. In 1968 Cherry Grove and the neighboring sections of Crescent Beach, Windy Hill, and Ocean Drive were incorporated in the new city of North Myrtle Beach. Today, Cherry Grove is one of the most popular vacation spots in South Carolina. In 2018 Cherry Grove was voted the “Best Beach in South Carolina” by USA Today.

Attractions

Accessible only by Sea Mountain Highway and Ocean Drive, this community includes many amazing restaurants, bars, and quaint mom-and-pop stores. At the center of the community lies the historic Cherry Grove Pier. Here you can spend the day fishing and drinking in the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean. Several world records have been set at the Cherry Grove Pier, including the world’s largest tiger shark ever caught on rod and reel at 1,780 pounds and nearly 16 feet.

Living in Cherry Grove is the perfect way to combine the fun and excitement of the Grand Strand while maintaining the peace and quiet that so many are looking for in a coastal community. Only a few short minutes from Main Street North Myrtle Beach, Cherry Grove is only a short drive from many of the area’s most popular attractions. Golfers living in Cherry Grove will want to visit one of the many championship golf courses only minutes from the community, including Surf Golf & Beach Club and Glen Dornoch. Shop until you drop at the Coastal North Town shopping center. Coastal North Town is a great place to visit to grab a bite to eat and shop for new clothing and home decor. The shopping center features a Hobby Lobby, Ross, TJ Maxx, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Pet Smart, Chipotle, Bojangles along with a full grocery store Publix.
