Catch the Spirit with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Football Team 2018!

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are ready to take to the field and tear up the competition, making their mark on the FBS level, vying for a bowl game.  The Chanticleers are entering their second season in the Sun Belt Conference but were not eligible for a bowl game during their first season in the Football Bowl Subdivision.  The 2018 Football Season will be their 16th season with 14 years at the Football Championship Subdivision level and their first season of bowl eligibility with the FBS.

Coastal Carolina went 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the Sun Belt last season as CCU Head Coach Joe Moglia had to sit out the season due to a medical leave for a bacterial infection affecting his lungs.  Offensive Coordinator and Associate Head Coach Jamey Chadwell served as the interim head coach last season. This season, he will be able to concentrate his energy on the offense as Head Coach Joe Moglia returns to help coach the Fighting Chanticleers to a winning season.

Coach Moglia was 51-15 while coaching the Chanticleers for five seasons through 2016 and feels that he might have a little more insight into how to move his talented players forward into a winning season.  “I think there is always a value to stepping away from something and observing it a little bit more from the outside,” Moglia said. “Sometimes when you’re on the inside you get a little too emotionally involved, you don’t see the forest through the trees. I don’t know if I learned anything different than I would have learned had I been there, but I’m certainly aware of the mistakes we made and some of the things we can do moving forward.”

The Chanticleers also have a new defensive coordinator on the Coastal Carolina football coaching staff, Marvin Sanders, due to the retirement of Mickey Matthews.  Defensive Coordinator Marvin Sanders is a former defensive coordinator at North Carolina and has 23 years of collegiate coaching experience.  Head Coach Moglia feels that Sanders brings a lot of experience and open-mindedness to the table and feels the coaches have learned a lot from him.

The defensive players on the Coastal Carolina football roster 2018 like Sanders approach to coaching and feel that he has energized the team.  Coach Sanders has motivated them to work his system, and they are ready to put their best on the field with enthusiasm.  It looks like it is going to be a great year for the Chanticleers.
