Bring a Little Beach to Your Holiday Decorating

It’s that time of year again!!! The holiday season is in full swing, and all across the Grand Strand families are decking their halls with coastal cheer. While many people think of the beach as a purely summer locale, you’ll find nothing brightens your home during the holiday season like little reminders of beach trips past.

If you’d like to bring some beachy flair to your holiday decorating, try these four handy tricks.

Coastal Color Scheme

Bing Crosby said it best when he said, “May all your Christmases be white’”.

Of course, if you’ve spent most of your life in a coastal community, having a “White Christmas” means something completely different. When asked to think of Christmassy colors, most people’s minds typically run to shades of red and green. One of the easiest ways to brighten your home with a little coastal magic this holiday season is by incorporating the cool colors of the coast.

Tara Griffiths works in Owner Services with Elliott Beach Rentals and is a lifelong beach lover—said, “Growing up along the North Carolina Coast, having a “White Christmas” meant spending time near sugar-white sand and the glistening white caps of the Atlantic.”

“When decorating my home for Christmas,” Tara said, “I like to focus on the teal and navy shades of the ocean, and the cream and tan colors of a sun-kissed beach.”

Seashells

Seashells are among the most versatile tools in the coastal Christmas decorating handbook. Perfect for anything from a table centerpiece, to Christmas tree decorations, seashells are the perfect way to incorporate the spirit of the beach into your holiday decorating.

Beyond simple seashells, sand dollars, starfish, and sea glass are all great ways to freshen up your home during the holidays with the essence of the beach.

Driftwood

Another easy way to bring a little beach to your holidays is through the strategic use of Driftwood. Found on virtually any beach in the world, driftwood makes for wonderful coastal accents during the holidays—perfect for anything from centerpieces on a mantel, to ornaments on a beach-themed Christmas tree.

Beach Towels

Got an old beach towel that you never use anymore? Don’t just throw them away. Give them a new life, and convert them into a clever DIY Christmas creation. Beach towels are a versatile crafting material—perfect for anything from a stylish tree skirt to nifty Christmas stockings.
