Bistro 217

Pawleys Island and Murrells Inlet are known for their outstanding seafood restaurants and fine dining experiences.  If you want a fantastic dining experience with delicious cuisine, beautiful décor and outstanding service, try Bistro 217.  Located in the Lowcountry of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, at 10707 Ocean Highway, Bistro 217 is a unique, upscale dining experience that reflects the culinary heritage of the area.

The main reason that Bistro 217 serves phenomenal food is the co-owner and award-winning Chef Adam Kirby.  Chef Kirby is chef ambassador of South Carolina and received top honor at Atlanta Food and Wine Festival.  Chef Kirby uses only the freshest local seafood and seasonal ingredients.  Bistro 217 also has its own in-house butcher shop and uses only Certified Angus Beef.

Although Bistro 217 is an upscale restaurant, one of their specialties is the Monster Bistro Burger which was voted as one of Carolina’s Best Burgers by Southern Living.  Chef Kirby uses his own house-ground blend of ribeye, filet, and strip steak to create the mouth-watering burger and offers toppings of cheese and applewood-smoked bacon if desired, but this burger does not need it for great taste.

Co-owner, Anne Hardee, also plays an essential role at Bistro 217 with a couple of decades of food industry experience and a welcoming personality that makes guests feel right at home.  Chef Kirby and Anne are constantly brainstorming new ideas with their colleagues.  The menu specials change every day with lots of variety and satisfying portions that are delicious.

ErnieM feels that the service, ambiance, and portions are on point.—” Very nice ambiance and the service by Melissa W. was perfect. We were a party of 6 and were all well served. I started with the butternut squash soup which was delicious. I then finished with an appetizer portion of Asian ribs. There was plenty of meat on the bones and a good portion. My wife had the seared salmon and loved it.  The St.Fran zin was excellent.”

One not-to-be missed lunch option is the Pan Sautéed Grouper. A generous portion of grouper is dressed to the nines in a delectable lobster sauce and served over crispy house made chips and fried spinach. The Shepard’s Pie has become a major hit. Kirby’s Chicken Salad – chock full of grilled chicken, fresh grapes and toasted pecans – is a perfect summer option. The Red Curry Chicken is crazy popular.  (Lowcountry Companion)

CindyL has some good things to say about lunch—” This restaurant is one of the best in food, customer service and take out. Recently they served a fantastic special, duck breast sandwich for lunch. I really wanted to bring my hubby back for dinner, so they saved 2 breast and we were overjoyed. We felt so special and the meal was awesome. Rebecca, our waitress was one of a kind, so professional and one of the best. The pimento cheese is phenomenal.”

Bistro 217 ups their game when dinner rolls around. The Seared George’s Bank Scallops are amazing and served alongside a fresh spring pea risotto and tender, honey-glazed carrots, a must-try option.  Braised Beef Short Ribs (with buttermilk-mashed potatoes – and more) and Grilled Filet Mignon are two of several dishes that feature their Certified Angus Beef.  Lunch or dinner, try with the Tomato, Crab and Jalapeño soup or the Crab Bisque with a side of fried okra with a spiced-just-right Jalapeño Remoulade.

TammiG raves about dinner—” I’m practically speechless, the food has left me numb with happiness.  I had the fried green tomatoes with fried oysters, served stacked and fried to perfection, not oily at all.  My daughter ordered the filet mignon with shrimp served over a creamed spinach.  Our conversation was full of, “wow, yum, this is the best meal I have had in a long time…Staff was friendly and we will definitely be back. Dessert was just as impressive, warm while chocolate bread pudding and the Hazelnut chocolate bomb… the names speak for themselves.   Each bite left us wanting another.  See you soon Bistro 217!”

For dessert, it would be an injustice not to try any one of Chef Adam’s homemade ice creams. They are churned in the kitchen – fresh every morning. Mouthwatering flavors like Roasted Banana, Chocolate Cayenne and Pistachio, Salty Caramel, Cinnamon Pecan and Key Lime Pie (Chef Adam actually folds the luscious, in-house made pie into the ice cream!) Al of the variations are made with the finest ingredients and not one artificial flavor.

Bistro 217 also has a great wine list with dozens of wines as well as twenty-five plus available by the glass, and most are chosen for taste and affordability.  There is also a great craft beer selection and a bar menu with smaller plates for smaller appetites or you might want to try several items and share.

The Bistro 217 Pawleys Island menu is outstanding and one you really should try.  Chef Kirby makes everything from scratch—bread, stocks, soups, sauces, even about 10 flavors of ice cream.  You will really want to dine at this Pawleys Island’s restaurant that is a locals’ favorite—Bistro 217.
