The Asher Theatre Conference and Event Center located at 3237 Waccamaw Boulevard, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina opened its inaugural season with The Man of a Thousand Voices, Myrtle Beach’s newest hit show, featuring master impressionist and entertainer James Stephens, III. Stephens has done stand up appearances on ABC, NBC, CBS, Comedy Central, HBO, Showtime, and MTV. The editor of Time magazine said he was one of the funniest comedians of our time.
Stephens is a man of many talents. He is not only a great comedian, but he also dances, sings, does impressions, and plays various instruments. According to his bio, “Stephens has a wide range of voices. One minute he’s Chris Rock and Lil Wayne, and the next moment he’s Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan. This triple-threat also plays piano like Duke Ellington, trumpet like Louis Armstrong, dances like Sammy Davis Jr. and sings like everybody! He’s a must see!” The Asher Theatre will be featuring Stephens as a recurring act.
Community engagement is very important to the Asher Theatre. They strongly believe “that every good business grows only as its community grows and that a business’s success (or lack thereof) is in direct proportion to its involvement in its community.” The Asher Theatre wants to become a central part of the community and a go-to place for community gatherings, educational workshops, speakers, and spiritual retreats. According to their website, “we are committed to and always looking for partnership opportunities with the community and we welcome ideas on collaboration, initiatives, or projects that will advance people and youth who reside in Myrtle Beach and our neighboring communities.”
The Asher Theatre in Myrtle Beach is also sponsoring a Light Talk Series on a variety of topics featuring a renown guest speaker. The series will be open to the public and the entire community including families and children and does not have an ages limit. Their mission for the Light Talk Series is to unite our community with cultural, spiritual, and even governmental inflections.
The James Stephens Scholarship Foundation is also an organization that the Asher Theatre is affiliated with to help provide scholarship awards and laptop computers to South Carolina Youth. The James Stephens III Scholarship Foundation was established by Mr. James Stephens thirty years ago and is always finding ways to assist students with educational workshops, books, supplies, and other opportunities to help them succeed.
Another organization that the Asher Theatre has become affiliated with is The Global Christian Profession Women’s Association which is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and is the leading resource for serving and advancing Christian professional women worldwide. This organization’s goal is to empower and support professional women of faith. According to Asher theatre’s website, the GCPWA’s “greatest achievement to-date has been the establishment of the State of South Carolina’s first Reading Room for orphaned children, which was birthed from GCPWA’s unique partnership with the Horry County Department of Social Services.”
