10th Annual Snowball Drop in Historic Downtown Conway

Conway Downtown Alive will host the 10th Annual Snowball Drop on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.  A “snowball” cannon will shoot approximately 1500 ping-pong balls with store names and prize numbers written on them into the air.

Snowball Drop participants are invited to gather on Laurel Street between 3rd and 4th Avenue to catch the snowballs as they fall from the sky.  After the snowballs have been collected, the participants will visit the various shops to claim their prize in the form of a coupon, special offer or free gift.  Remember to be there at 10:00 a.m. sharp, because it does not take long for all of the snowballs to be collected.

There will be several launches from the snowball cannons.  The first launch will be for the children and will feature small prizes from Conway Alive.  The remaining launches will target the adults and consist of prizes from over forty stores in Downtown Conway.  There is no charge for this event, but there tends to be a lot of excitement generated in collecting the snowballs; therefore, pushing and running may occur during the Snowball Drop Conway SC.

The Snowball Drop is one of the many events that Conway Alive coordinates to help promote and preserve Downtown Conway, South Carolina.  A statewide Main Street program was developed in in 1985 when South Carolina joined the revitalization movement.  Conway Alive is an offspring of the Main Street program which was developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Conway, along with three other cities—Aiken, Beaufort and Georgetown- were chosen as a founding program for Main Street South Carolina.  Therefore, Conway Main Street USA is one of the oldest Main Street programs in the State.  It is also one of the oldest towns in South Carolina.  This historic river town was found in 1732 and has a long, proud history.

“The Main Street program was a comprehensive, incremental approach to regenerating the economic vitality of downtown commercial districts, built around a community’s unique heritage and attributes. Using local resources and initiative, the Main Street program helps communities develop strategies to stimulate long-term economic growth and pride in the community center — downtown. This is done through several platforms – promotions, physical improvements and economic restructuring.” (Conway Alive Website)

Conway Downtown Alive was formed in June 2011 when Conway Main Street USA withdrew from the South Carolina Main Street Program.  Today Downtown Conway is preserved and promoted by Conway Downtown Alive.

If you have not visited Conway, South Carolina in a while, it would be a great daytrip.  Conway is a charming, historical city with tree-lined streets, quaint little shops and a beautiful River Walk.  In fact, November 10, 2018 would be a great day to take a daytrip to Conway and participate in the Snowball Drop while you are there.  We are sure you will have a wonderful time.
